Inflation Affects Even the Fisker Karma S
Nothing in this economy is safe from inflation. Avocados, comic books, and cutlery all raise their prices just about yearly, so it’s no surprise that a Fisker Karma S increased its cost a bit too. Earlier this month, the company released an announcement that the 2012 luxury hybrid would cost about 6% more than last year’s model. Because it’s always been among the more affordable options in the high luxury tier, that doesn’t translate out to too much, but it’s still enough to encourage some advance sales and deposits.
The first Fisker Karma S wowed critics not just with its sleek design and fuel efficiency but also its cost. A standard model of the hybrid powerhouse cost just over $95,000, which seemed like a steal for the technological innovations the car boasted. It was, and even with this new increase, it still is. As inflation drops the value of currency worldwide, the price of the Karma’s materials and revolutionary engine remain high. Inching up in cost from $95K to just over $100K is pretty negligible, considering the vehicle.
Able to accelerate 0-60 mph in 6.3 seconds, the Karma’s 32 mpg rating from the EPA seems like a miracle. It’s a powerful green beauty, which explains why lines of hopeful buyers have stayed long. A little price increase won’t affect them, because most believed the car was worth $100K or more all along. All the same, if you were hoping to buy a Fisker Karma S at the old MSRP, you still have a chance to save that 6%. In its press release, the company said buyers who place a deposit before January 15, 2012 can still get their car at last year’s price.
