0-60 Test Series: Maserati Quattroporte Sport GT S vs. Aston Martin DB9
Two exciting additions to the luxury car market are the Maserati Quattroporte Sport GT S and the 2011 Aston Martin DB9.
The 2011 Quattroporte is a high performance luxury sedan, available in Sport GT S, base, and S trim levels. The package includes as standard 18-inch wheels, power-assisted doors, bi-xenon headlamps, a voice-activated navigation system, two-zone automatic climate control, and a power rear sunshade. The entertainment system consists of a Bose multimedia integration system, iPod jack, satellite radio and USB port, and an 11-speaker surround sound system.
The all-new, improved DB9 retains the exotic look of earlier models and deserves to retain its title as one of the most attractive cars in the world. Both the Volante convertible and the coupe models come with 19-inch alloy wheels, wind deflector, xenon headlights, dual mode track and street active suspension, auto-dimming rear mirror, and rear parking sensors. Entertainment comes alive in the form of a premium stereo system complete with USB/iPod audio interface, satellite radio, and six-CD changer. Notable improvements to the DB9 are the larger digital speedometer and LCD cabin screen—which make for a more user-friendly interface.
Standard safety features of the 2011 DB9 are anti-lock disc brakes with brake assist, rear parking sensors, stability and traction control system, and front side airbags that offer torso and head protection.
A question important to all luxury car owners is, of course, how fast is it? In the case of the Maserati, the six-speed automatic transmission engine accelerates from 0-60 in 5.6 seconds. How does the DB9 compare? It’s the clear winner in the speed stakes, achieving 60mph in 4.6 seconds. Aston Martin's most recognized model could also be said to have the edge in terms of appearance, although many will prefer the larger size, not to mention the lower price, of the Maserati.
